Current Need

The US Oncology Network seeks to identify a Senior Director of Surgical Services.

The Network has a long history of supporting the work of gynecologic oncologist and has recently accelerated recruitment of a more diverse collection of surgical specialists including surgical oncologists, breast surgeons, colorectal surgeons, and urologists. We seek an experienced business executive with healthcare and ideally operational experience in surgical services to identify and execute on a variety of operational and strategic initiatives that optimize the performance of the surgical practices with three ultimate goals namely; 1)strengthening the operational and financial performances of the surgical practices. 2) developing an operational and financial framework that positions US Oncology as a preferred employer of surgeons wishing to practice in the community, and 3) improving the quality of multi-disciplinary high value care through maximizing the collaboration of surgeons with non-surgical specialists in The Network. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work systematically in analysis, development, and execution of programs designed to improve operational and financial performance in complex healthcare settings ideally with specific experience in surgical settings within hospitals, surgical centers, or multi-disciplinary cancer delivery systems. Competitive candidates will have experience in organizational design and execution supported by business pro-forma justifying key infrastructure and organizational investments. Additionally, the candidate should have strong communication skills with ease in working with both physicians and corporate executives as this role will include working productively in a matrixed environment collaborating with multiple business units within McKesson Specialty Health and McKesson Corporation including content experts in coding, operations, contracting, finance, education, and research.
Position Description

Strategic Development of the Surgical Service Lines

Development of the overarching Surgical Service Lines for McKesson Specialty Health.
Development of surgical programs spanning preoperative assessment through surviorship that demonstrate high quality and high value care for the surgical patient.
Analysis of emerging in office technology that might improve the support the surgical office practice.
Visualizing and developing business opportunities that provide tangible and diverse streams of financial support to the surgeon.
Development of measures that describe success.
Operational Development and Implementation of Surgical Service Lines

Develop network infrastructure that support the surgeons and the patients they serve.
Look for models and opportunities to ensure efficiency for the surgeons.
Define and implement realistic project management for implementations that have been identified for each fiscal year.
Be accountable and hold others accountable for the implementation of the various programs developed with documented expectations and measurements.
Work across the continuum of the network to develop and implement the various programs developed.
Know and understand, along with other leaders, the intricate details of the surgical business from the beginning to the end (Ordering, charge entry, coding, billing, collections, EBIT,90 day window, etc).
Understand the financial impacts of surgery to the surgeons and the practices.
Demonstrate leadership through participation in site visits and pro-forma financial reviews pertaining to new clinical or business models.
Understand the details of how managed care works with regard to the surgical service lines.
Develop strong business relationships with the various business unit leaders around the McKesson network.
Provide meetings and CME opportunities across the network to the surgeons.
Leadership and Managerial Oversight of people including:

Educate other senior leaders of McKesson Specialty Health on evolving trends in surgery and maximize the likelihood that divisional priorities align with needed investments in surgical services.
Setting performance objectives for employees
Helping employees grow and develop
Performing mid-year and end of year performance reviews
Handling all people-management responsibilities
This role can also be based in Dallas, TX..Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
8+ years business development experience and 5+ years managerial experience
Critical Skills
This position requires a MBA or Master's Degree in a field relevant to the health care industry. At least 5 years of health care experience; preference is for experience in the surgery, oncology, or related multi-specialty space.
Must have out-patient multi-site management experience that includes managing surgical practices, preference towards urology.
At least 3 years of experience with developing and implementing clinical and business models that support physicians and patients, preferably surgeons.
At least 2 years of managerial experience at the Manager, or Senior Manager levelOperational experience in surgical services
Additional Knowledge & Skills
Thorough knowledge of business development practices and procedures; Solid management, communication and analytical skills.
Surgical experience strongly preferred
Other specialty (oncology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, urology, etc.) experience a plus

MBA preferred in Finance, Business, or related field or equivalent experience
Physical Requirements
General Office Demands
Must be willing and able to travel at least 30-40% to fulfill the requirements of the job, travel can get as high as 50%
