Job Title: Family Office Accountant/Bookkeeper
Headquartered in the Woodlands, TX, our client's (The Company) principal activities include investment management, family financial management services, and commercial property management. The company's current portfolio of investments includes interests in private equity limited partnerships, public equities, and real estate.
The company is affiliated with a private exploration and production company (the affiliate) focused on the Gulf of Mexico Shelf Basin, which produces in excess of 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, and invests $300 - $450 million per year in new drilling opportunities.
Opportunity:
The Family Office Accountant will interface directly with the principals of The Company, two highly successful oil and gas entrepreneurs, who are looking to increase both the size and scope of activities. This Family Office Accountant will be responsible for investment reporting, tax preparation, and family financial matters.
Specific responsibilities include:
Personal Accounting/Bookkeeping
- Providing bookkeeping services including preparation of journal entries
- Maintaining a financial calendar and short-term cash flow forecasting
Investment/Financial Reporting
- Preparing quarterly reports that summarize The Company's investment holdings and performance
- Preparing quarterly and annual financial statements for The Company
- Bookkeeping services for both The Company and select family matters
- Coordinating and preparing documents for The Company's annual audit by its independent accounting firm
Taxes
- Oversight and coordination of all company and personal tax matters utilizing outside tax advisors
- Cash forecasting for taxes, investments, and other family related matters
- Coordinating with outside advisors to execute on various gift/estate related matters
- Filing and payment of other taxes including sales, use, and property, as applicable
Other
- Real estate property management
- Due diligence for loan applications
- Other family activities

The Family Office Accountant will have access to both internal and external finance, accounting, tax, and legal professionals. The Company currently utilizes outside advisors for tax return preparation and its annual audit. In addition, the CFO of the affiliate will supervise the Family Office Accountant and provide additional resources as needed.

Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
- Proficient in MS Excel and working knowledge of Quickbooks or other accounting software
- Knowledge of high new worth or oil and gas tax related matters is preferred
